Four-star defensive tackle Dexter Wideman (Saluda, S.C. Saluda) has flipped his commitment from the Florida State Seminoles to the South Carolina Gamecocks. Wideman had been committed to Florida State since Jul. 22 but the writing had been on the wall for him to drop his commitment in favor of the Cocks.
Wideman has been a frequent visitor to Columbia after committing to Florida State and has been on campus for South Carolina’s summer camp in July and made unofficial visits in September and October and took two unofficials in November putting the Gamecocks in position to flip him.
An official visit to South Carolina on Jan. 17 solidified the belief that he would likely be leaving Florida State, but that couldn’t be put to bed without him taking his official visit on Jan. 31. After that visit it was all but official that Wideman would join Steve Spurrier’s class which ranks 21st in the nation and ninth in the SEC.
The 6-4, 255-pound Wideman is the No. 166 recruit overall, No. 14 defensive tackle and the No. 4 player in the state of South Carolina.
