The Minnesota Golden Gophers kept the state’s top recruit close to home as four-star running back Jeff Jones (Minneapolis, Minn Washburn) signed his letter of intent with Jerry Kill’s club this morning giving Minnesota their 20th commitment for the class of 2014. Jones had been a soft verbal to the Gophers but after late offers from the Florida Gators and especially the Michigan Wolverines, there was some concern that Jones could sign elsewhere on signing day Wednesday. All that suspense was put to rest as the Minnesota fan base let out a collective sigh as Jones announced from his high school that he is going to continue his playing career with the Golden Gophers. Jones is the team’s highest ranked commitment. Jones is the nation’s No. 60 overall recruit and No. 9 running back according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He rushed for 1,525 yards and 34 touchdowns in his final year of high school and added eight more touchdowns via the air. Minnesota has the No. 58 class in the nation and the No. 12 class in the Big Ten.
