The Houston Rockets say they won’t be trading Omer Asik come the NBA trade deadline, a sentiment few insiders agree on.
Reports have suggested many teams are offering up deals for Asik, but the Rockets are simply asking too much for a player who will cost owners $15 million dollars next season thanks to his poison pill.
It’s been said that a handful of teams would like to acquire the big man, but their respective franchise owners simply won’t allow their general managers to acquire him given his salary and the fact the Rockets are asking a hefty price in return. Regardless, rumors will continue to swirl in the coming weeks and will likely only increase as the Rockets announced Asik will return to the rotation in the next 7 to 10 days. Timing that just so happens to perfectly coincide with the Rockets showcasing the big man for a trade.
At Tuesday’s practice, coach Kevin McHale said Asik could be cleared to play in the next 7-10 days.
Asik has yet to take part in any contact practice, but he’s expected to do so in the very near future.
