It’s not the biggest move, and it likely won’t even put a blip on the radar, but the Minnesota Wild and San Jose Sharks have completed a trade that will send forward Chad Rau to the Sharks in exchange for prospect Curt Gogol.
Rau, 27, has played in nine career NHL games with the Wild, scoring twice. The Minnesota native has spent the entire 2013-2014 with Minnesota’s AHL affiliate in Iowa, and hasn’t played in an NHL game since the 2011-2012 season. He will report to San Jose’s AHL team in Worcester, Mass.
Gogol, on the other hand, is 22, and has never appeared in an NHL game, spending all season with Worcester. He will report to Iowa.
NHL teams only have until Thursday night at 11:59 to complete trades before the 16-day Olympic trade freeze begins.
