Earlier today, American snowboarder Shaun White pulled out of a Sochi Olympics slopestyle event, suggesting that the course simply wasn’t safe.
White said he has taken practice runs and see fellow competitors go down with injury and the event simply isn’t worth the risk. Some of hinted that White is being a bit of a drama queen about it.
We’ve seen the photos of the course and while they look intimidating, it’s hard to know exactly what it would feel like riding down the mountain.
Or so we thought. Russian snowboarder Alexey Sobolev decided to strap a GoPro camera on his helmet and take us for a spin down the course, which I have to admit, is pretty hairy. Of course, I’ve never rode on an Olympic snowboard course so maybe I’m all wet, but there is some serious air being grabbed by Soboley and he doesn’t appear to be going extra hard either.
The final three jumps on the course have drops of 101 feet, 92 feet and 85 feet. That doesn’t include any extra air you achieve during lift-off.
