Alex Ovechkin is the NHL’s First 40-Goal Scorer

The NHL has its first 40-goal scorer of the season, and it’s a face that everyone knows.

In Washington’s comeback 5-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets, Alex Ovechkin beat Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. This marks the first time Ovechkin has reached the 40 goal mark since he recorded 50 tallies during the 2009-10 season. The next closest player to the great 8 in goals this year is Toronto Maple Leafs winger Phil Kessel with 30 markers.

Ovechkin is leading a Washington Capitals team that is just three points back of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Philadelphia Flyers in the Metropolitan Division and Detroit Red Wings in the NHL wild card race.
