Matt LaPorta joins Orioles on minor league deal

Former first round pick Matt LaPorta has a new home.

Roch Kubatko of MASN reports that the Baltimore Orioles have signed the former Cleveland Indian to a minor-league deal. LaPorta, who was the key piece in the CC Sabathia trade with Milwaukee did not live up to his “first-round pick” potential. Over four years with the Indians, he hit .238/.301/.393 over 291 games. He did not play in 2013 and only played in 22 games in 2012. The majority of his playing time has come at first base, but he also has some experience as a left fielder.
