Michigan State coach talks about 2014 recruiting class

Michigan State Spartans coach Mark Dantonio recently introduced the Spartans’ 2014 recruiting class at a press conference inside the Clara Bell Smith Center Auditorium. The class features 20 players representing eight states, including Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

In his eight years at the helm, coach Dantonio said this may be his best recruiting class yet.

With this one in particular I feel it’s our most solid in seven, eight years here. Very, very excited about the people we have coming in. I think we addressed some of the issues across the board that we needed to based on graduation.

The coach also pointed to his newly committed linebackers as being a strength.

We’ve recruited four linebackers, and all of these guys are very instinctive players, guys that have played multiple positions, tailback. I think all three of them – all four of them have actually played tailback at one point in time. Couple played in the secondary as well. So they’re athletic guys. They’re guys that can move, catch the ball, run; they’re 220 plus pounds or so.

Admittedly Dantonio doesn’t pay much attention to national rankings, saying he builds his recruitment around team needs. He said all of his signings want to be Spartans, and that is what gets him excited.
