The UFC on FOX 11 show is quickly filling up with exciting matchups, and the UFC added another three to the Orlando card today. Thiago Alves returns to the Octagon after an almost two year hiatus to take on TUF alumnus, Seth Baczynski. In a Middleweight bout, Josh Samman returns to face Caio Magalhaes. Jordan Mein will also return to the event to take on Santiago Ponzinibbio in a Welterweight bout.
Three of the six men scheduled in these bouts have been on hiatuses from MMA. The most notable is former #1 Welterweight contender, Thiago Alves. Alves has been on the sidelines with multiple injuries for almost two years. His last fight, a submission loss to Martin Kampmann, was on March 3, 2012. His opponent, TUF 11 alum Seth Baczynski, recently snapped a two fight losing streak by defeating Neil Magny back in November.
Florida resident and TUF 17 alumnus, Josh Samman, campaigned for a fight in Orlando, and he has been granted his wish. Samman has not fought since the TUF 17 Finale where he defeated Kevin Casey by TKO in the second round. When he steps into the Octagon on April 19th, it will be just over a year since he last fought. His opponent, Caio Magalhaes, is on a two fight winning streak after losing his UFC debut. He will look to make it three in a row against Samman in April.
Jordan Mein last fought at UFC on 7 against Matt Brown in an exciting bout. Mein was ultimately TKO’ed by Brown in the second round. Mein has a lot of upside and is a young fighter for how much experience he has. He will be taking on the TUF Brazil 2 alum Santiago Ponzinibbio. Ponzinibbio lost his UFC debut to Ryan LaFlare and will look to get back on track against Mein.
