The Athletics have locked up their center fielder for an extra two years.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle has just announced that Coco Crisp has signed a 2-year deal with the Oakland Athletics. The deal also includes a vesting option for 2017.

Crisp has cemented himself as an outstanding defensive center fielder who puts up consistent offensive numbers from the lead-off spot in the lineup. For last season, Crisp hit .261/.335/.444 and showcased some pop with a career-high 22 home runs over 513 at-bats. He finished 15th in the AL MVP voting.

The contract extension could take Crisp into his age-37 year. He has played the last four seasons of his twelve-year career with Oakland. He would have been a free agent at the end of this season. The two-year extension is worth $22.75 million.
