The hospital treading former Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher has denied online rumours that the German had died.

The 45-year old, 7-time world champion was put into a medically induced coma following a skiing accident on 29 December. Following the spread of online rumours, Grenoble University Hospital issued a short statement:

“The hospital denies that Michael Schumacher has died.”

Last week Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm confirmed that he was being brought round from his coma (via Daily Express)

“Michael’s sedation has recently been reduced to initiate a process of awakening which may take a long time.”

This was backed up by French newspaper L’Equipe, who reported that Schumacher has been undergoing neurological tests and was responding positively.

Schumacher was injured when he hit a rock while skiing off-piste and his head collided with another. He was airlifted to the hospital where he was put into the coma, in order to ease pressure on his brain.
