The Golden State Warriors are one of the fastest rising teams in the NBA, but they still seem to need some help before they’re try title contenders. One way to get good this year right now and plan for the future is to trade a big name player in order to clear cap space and make a run at a free agent this summer.

Warriors beat writer Tim Kawakami from the Mercury News suggests that the team could move David Lee to the Cavs and save by accepting low cost or expiring contracts.

"If the Warriors can move Lee’s contract WITHOUT having to take back long-term money, they’d be within reach of carving out enough salary-cap space to make an aggressive bid for one of the top upcoming free agents. … If I’m the Warriors, I’d make a call over there and check in about a few of their players–namely Luol Deng, ex-Warrior Jarrett Jack and Dion Waiters."

There’s no saying that the Cavs would want this deal, but they need to figure something out and Golden State could benefit by taking on Deng, making a title run and then other bringing Deng back in the summer or going after a bug name free agent.
