The referee who sent off Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended, according to reports. Miguel Angel Ayza Gamez sent Ronaldo off after clashes with two Athletic Bilbao players, and while Madrid’s appeal against the decision was thrown out, InsideWorldFootball tweeted that the referee has been suspended anyway:
The referee who sent off Ronaldo at Bilbao has been suspended for a month and barred from taking charge of Real Madrid games this season

The decision to drop a referee is made by the Spanish league’s refereeing technical committee, who may have taken into account the over-enthusiastic reaction of the Bilbao players to any contact Ronaldo made.
Madrid will still be without their top scorer for the next two matches, though he will be able to return to the side for the Madrid derby against Athletico Madrid at the start of March.
