The Buffalo Sabres were in Ottawa on Thursday night to take on the Ottawa Senators in the team’s last game before the two-week Olympic break. Naturally, the hot topic of conversation wasn’t about the teams on the ice, but instead the family connection between the two organizations off of it.
New Sabres General Manager Tim Murray is the nephew and former assistant of Ottawa GM Bryan Murray. While speaking with the Ottawa Citizen the nephew Murray admitted that he wouldn’t be against trading with his uncle despite being in the same division.
“I think it would be pretty cool to make a deal with him,” he said. “If the deal makes sense, I’m not shy about making a deal at all.”
The Sabres have been brought up often over the last few weeks and months about the future of impending unrestricted free agents Steve Ott, Matt Moulson and Ryan Miller. While it’s unlikely that Ottawa would be interested in bringing Miller aboard, picking up a player like Moulson to make a playoff push could be what Bryan Murray has on his mind. It should be easy to get a hold of the GM in Buffalo since, you know, he is family, after all.
