As you have likely already heard, UFC Light Heavyweight, Thiago Silva, was arrested last night at his home after a standoff with South Florida police and a SWAT team. Silva was arrested on four felony charges including attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and resisting an officer/arrest.
In the video above, watch Silva’s live court hearing (starts at about 2:18:30 into the video) this morning from the Broward County jail. Silva is currently being held without a bond.
This all started late last night after Silva was involved in an alleged disturbance at the Pablo Popovitch Mixed Martial Arts Academy. After threatening someone at the camp, Silva went back to his home where he had an armed standoff with police officers. Ultimately, Silva was arrested and taken into custody.
The UFC has not released an official statement yet on the situation. It is more than likely that Dana White or some other UFC official will give a statement later today. With Silva’s recent track record it is likely that he will be cut from the UFC, but he may have bigger problems than that. Four felony counts is a very big deal, and Thiago could be going to jail for some time. As for now, we will have to wait for the legal process to take its’ course.
