MLB Rumors: Dodgers doubt Matt Kemp to be ready for season opener

It was not expected Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp would be ready to open the season, though, there was a lingering amount of hope (or wishful thinking) the All-Star would somehow fight through the adversity and magically heal in time.

That doesn’t appear to be be the case as skipper Don Mattingly again reiterated that Kemp will likely miss the Dodgers season opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australia.

Mattingly said it doesn’t look like Matt Kemp will be ready for Australia. but said can’t rule him out.

With a few weeks before the Dodgers and D’Backs open the 2014 Major League season, Mattingly obviously didn’t want to rule him out but Kemp playing seems very unlikely.

After the series in Australia, the Dodgers will return home for a few more ‘Spring’ games before opening the season down the I-5 in San Diego against the Padres. Kemp’s status for the U.S. opener is currently up in the air.

Los Angeles, understandably wants to make sure Kemp is 100% healthy before returning.
