The Cincinnati Reds would like to sign Homer Bailey to a contract extension, but they know doing so won’t be easy.

Bailey is looking for a hefty deal – and rightfully so. But the Reds don’t have a lot of available cash now or in the future to give Bailey and the two sides apparently have an ‘enormous gap’ in regards to a potential extension, this according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.

There’s an enormous gap between the #reds last offer and what Homer Bailey wants in a long-term deal, source says.

That’s not exactly surprising news given everything we’ve heard in regards to Bailey and the Reds in recent weeks, though it has to be a bit concerning towards future progress on a deal.

Cincinnati is obviously going to have to give up more money than they want and Bailey is going to have to lower his asking price if the two sides are eventually to come to a deal, but for now it appears the two sides are extremely far apart.
