The Oakland Athletics aren’t known for their splashy moves, but if you were expecting a late free agent push – think again. According to general manager Billy Beane, the Athletics are done – at least in regards to making a big move, which ends any potential pursuit of players like Kendrys Morales or Nelson Cruz.

Beane squelches any thought of adding Cruz or Morales, says #Athletics won’t add any other big pieces.

The Athletics were linked to both Cruz and Morales for a fraction of a second, but both free agents are still looking to cash in big and the A’s don’t exactly give out lucrative contracts very often.

Oakland will essentially go with what they have (barring a minor addition or two) before the regular season starts.

Sure, Cruz or Morales in the middle of the Athletics lineup would be nice, but it’s nothing more than an unrealistic (and expensive) dream.

Oakland should have enough pieces to stay in the thick of the American League West this season without either player.
