Trying to seal a difficult victory at home against the Indiana Pacers, the Orlando Magic had to survive the typical challenges presented in the final minute of the game: protect the ball, make your free throws, and do not commit reckless fouls.
Clinging to a 93-92 lead with 15 seconds left, the Magic struggled to get the ball inbounds more than once. Rookie Victor Oladipo forced the team to use a timeout, followed by Arron Afflalo calling timeout after the Pacers’ defense trapped him. Faced with yet another white-knuckle inbounds pass, Orlando turned to center Nikola Vucevic to throw it in over David West.
Vucevic tried to throw it off West’s leg instead; he missed and threw it clean through his legs. From there it was chaos, with Paul George getting a final shot in traffic to try and win it for Indiana.
The Pacers opted not to call a timeout, counting on George to either make a superstar shot or get a superstar call. Neither happened, and Orlando came away with the win.
