Former Chicago Cubs seventh round draft pick out of San Diego City College, Sergio Mitre appears to be getting another shot at professional baseball. No it’s not in the United States, it’s in Japan. A lot of Major League baseball players have jumped back and forth between the States and Japan a lot.
According to Patrick Newman on Twitter, Sergio is currently on a trial basis or run with the Rakuten Golden Eagles. The team that posted pitching sensation Masahrio Tanaka.

It appears that the 32 year old pitcher isn’t quite ready to hang it up, and a trip overseas could be exactly what he needs. He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues ever since the 2011 season, the year he returned to the New York Yankees for a second stint with the team.
He only lasted three years with the Chicago Cubs, two years with the Florida Marlins, three years with the Yankees and one year with the Milwaukee Brewers. Best of luck to Sergio in Japan, hopefully he’s able to get his career back on track.
