Jamie Anderson was able to bring home the gold for the United States in the 2014 Winter Olympics women’s snowboard slopestyle competition. After a stunning final run, Anderson topped the podium, but it wasn’t all smiles for every rider that hit the slopes.

Unfortunately for Sarka Pancochova of the Czech Republic, she became the first rider during the Sochi Games to take a frightening crash on the course.

Pancochova slammed her head off of the slope during the crash, which resulted in a cracked helmet. Hey, that is what those things are for. It is better to see the helmet explode than your noggin.

Here are some photos of the damage that was caused by Pancochova’s scary crash:

Showing the true Olympic spirit, Pancochova got up and finished her run before landing in fifth-place when the competition came to a close.
