Big 12 basketball was swept up in the storm surrounding Marcus Smart and the Oklahoma State Cowboys over the weekend, but at the top of the standings, the league has one of the bigger divides between the #1 team and everyone else.
Smart’s 3-game suspension combined with Oklahoma State’s recent on-court troubles have sent the Cowboys spiraling down the list to #6 this week. There aren’t many teams that are more reliant on a singular talent, and when that player is out, it’s hard to imagine that OSU will be able to recover in the short term.
At the top, Kansas won both of their contests this week (including a dominant road win over Baylor), and with (by far) the most talented roster in the Big 12, they are a slam dunk. The Jayhawks have the mystique of seemingly winning the Big 12 every year, but with a 2-game lead over their next competitor in the standings, everyone is looking up at Joel Embiid, Andrew Wiggins, and Bill Self.
Without further ado, it’s time to unveil this week’s rankings, and by all means, feel free to flame us in the comments.
