Despite a somewhat cryptic tweet on Sunday afternoon, it appears free agent pitcher Ervin Santana is not nearing a deal, this according to MLB Trade Rumors.
Santana has been courted by many teams this offseason though things began to pick up in recent days after Santana reportedly dropped his asking price ‘significantly’.
The Baltimore Orioles (among other teams) were quick to show interest in Santana once he dropped his $100 million dollar contractual demands, but any deal Santana may be working on is still in its infancy according to Tim Dierkes.
Hearing there’s “no way” Ervin Santana signs today. Source says talks are “still in diapers,” with 3-4 serious teams.
With most catchers and pitchers to report in the coming days (some have already reported), Santana needs to sign in the relatively near future if he plans on getting in a full spring training.
In addition to the Orioles, the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers have all expressed at least some level of interest in Santana. The Toronto Blue Jays, who had alleged interest earlier this offseason, have apparently moved on.
