The center is to become a free agent at season end, thus, Philadelphia’s willingness to trade him as it doesn’t appear they have any interest in bringing him back next year. Unfortunately for Philadelphia, the trade market has been relatively thin and Yannis Koutroupis feels the Sixers will likely get stuck with Hawes come the NBA’s trade deadline.
I think the 76ers are going to be stuck with Hawes, likely going to lose him for nothing this offseason.
Philadelphia is said to want a first round pick in exchange for Hawes, but that’s going to be a pretty difficult sell for any team considering he’s nothing more than a few month rental. Add in the fact that he’s nothing special (certainly no game changer), it’s hard to imagine any team giving up such a price for Hawes.
It’s possible Philadelphia could potentially snag a second round pick and a bench player in return, but that’s not much of an asset for Hawes – especially when you might be able to sign and trade him for more at season end.
