Pros pick Lyoto Machida vs Gegard Mousasi

It is fight week, and that means the MMA community is buzzing about UFC Fight Night 36. The co-main and main event will drastically affect the Middleweight division’s rankings. The co-main event is a battle between two streaking Middleweights, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza and Francis Carmont. In the main event, the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida, takes on the former StrikeForce Light Heavyweight champion, Gegard Mousasi.

MMAinterviews caught up with a bunch of UFC stars to get their thoughts and predictions on Saturday night’s main event. Watch in the video above as Urijah Faber, Jake Ellenberger, Joseph Benavidez, Beneil Dariush, Rafael Dos Anjos, and Glover Teixeira all choose Lyoto Machida to defeat Gegard Mousasi. Many believe that Machida has found his natural weight class and he is going to be dominant at 185.

Machida was originally believed to be the next era at Light Heavyweight after he defeated Rashad Evans by KO at UFC 98. That night, Machida won the UFC Light Heavyweight belt, and many believed it would stay around his waist for some time. Two fights later, Machida was KO’ed by Shogun Rua, who eventually gave up the belt to current champion, Jon Jones.

After a few frustrating losses at Light Heavyweight, Machida decided to move down to Middleweight for a new challenge. After dispatching of Mark Munoz via a head kick KO in the first round, it was evident that Machida had just found his new home. Dana White has said that if Machida wins on Saturday night, he could face the winner of the UFC 173 Middleweight title bout between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort.
