Streak for the Cash Picks-February 10, 2014

Feb 3, 2014; Stillwater, OK, USA; Iowa State Cyclones guards DeAndre Kane (50) Matt Thomas (21) Monte

It’s the start of a new week on ESPN’s Streak for the Cash with 14 picks on the board.  Things get started with our daily early Olympic pick this time coming from the Men’s 500 meter speed skating. There are four soccer games this afternoon from Greece, England, Portugal, and Spain before a bunch of basketball picks fill up the evening tonight.

Each morning, you can find my picks for the day here on Fansided with a quick rundown of each game as well as my confidence in my pick on a scale of 1-10. You are also welcome to join the discussion in our community as part of our Fansided group which is open to the public and free to join by clicking here of by searching for “Fansided” in the Group Directory page on ESPN.  Here are my picks for this Sunday and my results so far this month:

 2/10 Streak Picks

Nov 15, 2013; Kearns, UT, USA; (Editors note: Caption correction) Tae-Bum Mo of Korea, left, races Ronald Mulder of the Netherlands in the men

8:00- Mo Tae-Bum or Michel Mulder: In the men’s 500m, these two comptitors are the strong favorites with Tae-Bum coming in at 11/4 while Mulder is around 10/3.  While anything can happen in these events, they’re the top two and one is likely to win. Confidence-4

12:30- Panionios win or draw: Aris Salonika is 2-8-13 at the bottom of the Greek Super League Table as they host Panionios who are 6-6-11.  Panionios needs the result to guarantee avoiding relegation and will be looking to avenge their earlier 2-1 loss to Salonika. Confidence-3

2:45- Queens Park Rangers win or draw: This match is from the English Championship which is the second-highest British league behind the EPL.  QPR currently sits in third on the table as they visit Derby County who is fourth.  QPR won 2-1 when they met earlier in the season and have earned a win or draw in six matches in a row.  Derby hasn’t been playing poorly either but have only won two of their last six outright.  It’s not a lock like the percentages make it look like it is, but I think the crowd has this one right. Confidence-5

3:00- Academica Win or Draw: Estoril is on the road giving the draw to Academica. Academica earned a draw at Estoril earlier this season 1-1 and have picked up a win or draw in their last three and four of their last five.  Estoril is coming off a run of four straight draws, and I think they could easily be headed for draw #5. Confidence-4

4:00- Athletic Bilboa win or draw: Bilboa is 13-4-5 in La Liga action which is good enough for fourth in the table even though they trail the three co-leaders by 14.  Bilboa is on the road for this match as they take on Celta Vigo who is 7-4-11 but are coming in off two wins against lower teams in the table. Bilboa will be a tough test for Vigo, and getting the draw I think they’re the best of the soccer options. Confidence-6

Feb 1, 2014; Coral Gables, FL, USA; Miami Hurricanes guard Manu Lecomte (20) dribbles the ball as Norfolk State Spartans guard Marese Phelps (4) applies pressure during the first half at BankUnited Center. Mandatory Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

7:02- Miami (FL) wins or Single Digit Loss: Miami visits their instate rivals Florida State and comes in as 5 1/2 point underdogs.  In this prop though, they get nine which makes them a nice option coming in off a pair of tough losses to Pitt and NC State at home. Their last three losses have been by a combined eight points although the did lose by 10 to the Seminoles back on January 15 in Miami.  They’ve improved since that game while Florida State has only managed one win in their last five games. including a home loss to Clemson. This rivalry game should be close, so take the points and the ‘Canes. Confidence-5

7:03- 6 or Fewer: This prop is for the first half of the Miami vs Florida State game on the number of players who will score five or more points.  They did a good job setting this prop since it will probably be six or seven, but I think it’s more likely to be a defensive battle than a high-scoring shootout. Confidence-3

7:04- Iowa State Cyclones: Does Iowa State have things back together or did they just trash TCU because they’re no good.  ISU comes in on a three game winning streak but have struggled on the road this season losing at Kanos, Oklahoma, and Texas.  The Mountaineers host them tonight looking to bounce back from having their three-game winning streak snapped in a road loss of their on at Kansas.  In their last home game, WVU upset then-#21 Oklahoma.  I just don’t see West Virginia keeping up with the high-scoring Cyclones especially with Melvin Ejim so locked in. Confidence-7

7:05- Toronto Raptors: Who would have thought the Pelicans and Raptors would be two of the hottest teams heading into the final week before the All-Star break? The Raps are seven-point favorites at home and are my pick based on the Pelicans 9-16 road record which includes losses in their last two road games at Minnesota and Brooklyn. Confidence-6

7:35- San Antonio Spurs: The Spurs continue their rodeo road trip as they head to Detroit where the Pistons are playing decent at home. San Antonio hasn’t been playing all their stars lately but keep finding ways to win with four W’s in their last five games. Confidence-4

8:05- 9 or more: In another well-planned prop, Streak asks us how many points FSU will score in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half.  This will be an easier prop once we see how sharp both teams are in the first half, but I’d tend to think they’ll get at least 9 in five minutes. Confidence-3

8:05- Boston Celtics: The C’s fell yesterday to Dallas and now travel to Milwaukee for the second half of their back-to-back taking on the Bucks who have beaten Boston twice already this season. Milwaukee is just 5-19 at home and have lost eight of their last nine and since the first of the year are just 2-17.  Rajon Rondo isn’t playing, but the Celtics have been playing better since his return and had won three in a row before falling to Dirk and the Mavs last night. Confidence-5

9:05- Kansas Jayhawks: KU enters the Octagon of Doom as four-point favorites against Kansas State.  These two are among the ultimates of in-state rivals, but KU usually has the upper hand no matter where the game is played. Kansas State just  knocked off then-#15 Texas in their last game, but they may have trouble making up the 26 points that separated the teams when they met back on January 11 at the Allen Fieldhouse.  K-State is no pushover, but the Jayhawks will be geared up and ready and should emerge with a W. Confidence-6

9:05- Virginia wins by Double Digits: The Cavs are 11-point faves at home against the Terps in this ACC matchup.  Virginia is 10-1 in conference  and has won nine of those games by double-digits. This will be their first game this season against Maryland, but since they’re at home I think they’re a solid pick even giving the points. Confidence-7
