Justin Verlander feeling good after surgery

It was a news piece that scared some Tigers fans: Justin Verlander had core surgery in the off season. What would that mean? Is he okay? Will he be ready for the season?

The answer, at least as far as the last question goes, appears to be “yes.” Tom Gage of the Detroit News reported that Verlander appears to be feeling good following core surgery that took place on January 9th. He had the surgery after injuring himself doing some offseason conditioning.

Gage also reports that Verlander looks to start around five Spring Training games, as the Tigers get ready to defend their American League Central title. Detroit’s first Spring Training game is scheduled for February 25 against Florida Southern College.
