Former Missouri Tigers standout Michael Sam came out as a homosexual athlete over the weekend, breaking down barriers and showing the world that he is not afraid to be who himself regardless of what people may think.

Since his announcement, people have been discussing how the news could affect Sam’s draft stock and whether or not an NFL locker room is ready for an openly gay athlete, but we learned one thing throughout the discussion.

America is ready.

That is exactly what the latest cover of Sports Illustrated shows us with the cover that features Sam:

It is great to see Sam getting a positive reaction for his announcement and his bravery certainly deserves praise.

With everything now out in the open, Sam can turn his attention to the NFL Scouting Combine and everyone should look out. Freedom is a powerful thing.
