Retired Texas Rangers legend Michael Young went on ESPN radio in Dallas and was asked about the Marcus Smart situation, since he is in the heart of Big 12 country. Young didn’t necessarily address Smart’s situation but weighed in on the best hecklers in baseball and how to handle them.
“I think New York and Boston are the best at being really creative. I think you appreciate a good rag from those guys. When all else fails nothing beats a good old-fashioned, ‘You Suck!’ Those play well for me. I love those. I think there are certain cities where fans a pretty much known to cross the line nightly,” Young said on ESPN Radio in Dallas, via the Dallas Morning News. ”You bite your lip and take it. My experience, early in my career I turned around a chirped back at them and now we’ve got the flood gates open and they won’t leave me alone the rest of the game. If you bite your lip and don’t even look at them, eventually they’re going to stop and that’s probably the best way to handle them.”
It did remind him of an incident during his time with the Rangers, to read more about that head over to the Dallas Morning News.
