The Houston Rockets came out and said they plan to keep Omer Asik moving forward, this after Asik requested a trade and the Rockets failed to move him by a self-imposed deadline.
And while the Rockets can suggest such, fellow NBA general managers don’t seem to be buying it.
Under the assumption that Asik still wants out and that he struggles to play next to Dwight Howard, many GM’s feel the Rockets are still trying to move Asik but it looks like a game of ‘chicken’ in regards to trading for the big man as GM’s attempt to get the lowest price possible.
I think Morey would like to see Morey trade him as well, but it’s looking like a game of chicken with other GMs. Morey knows Asik is a quality starting center, but other teams know he’s not worth that much to the Rockets because they already have Dwight so they’re holding out on making an offer that would move the needle for Houston this year and next.
It’s been reported that many teams are interested in acquiring Asik, but his $15 million dollar balloon contract ($8 million counts towards the cap) has owners balking at such a move.
