Since former Missouri Tigers standout Michael Sam announced that he was openly gay over the weekend, the discussion about whether or not his draft stock will be affected continues to roll on.
A number of anonymous NFL coaches and executives have come forward and said they expect Sam’s draft stock will take a significant draft-day plunge thanks to the media circus that they believe would come along with having him on the roster, but just how far could he fall?
That is where the fine folks in Las Vegas come in.
According to Bovada.lv, the over/under on where Sam will be selected is 125½. If Sam goes at No. 125 overall or earlier, the under gets the win. But if Sam goes at No. 126 overall, then the over becomes the money maker.
That means Las Vegas appears to think Sam will go somewhere in Round 4, which is a solid guess.
Before the news of Sam’s sexuality becoming public knowledge, he was rated anywhere from a third to a fifth-round prospect. With Vegas putting the over/under in the fourth-round, they don’t seem too worried that his announcement will alter his draft stock in any big way.
