Because of the fire storm surrounding Oklahoma State in the aftermath of the Marcus Smart outburst over the weekend, there is a significant corner of the basketball world with a keen interest on the Cowboys in their next game on Tuesday night in Austin, TX. However, the Cowboys caught a minor “break” when Texas announced a personnel absence for the game.
Texas says leading scorer Jonathan Holmes won’t play tonight against OSU due to knee injury.

The Longhorns will be without their leading scorer, Jonathan Holmes, thanks to a knee injury, and that should even the stakes a bit. Obviously, Holmes isn’t quite in the class of Marcus Smart in terms of talent, but the 6-foot-8 junior has had a big year, averaging 13.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 51% from the field and over 39% from 3-point range.
Because of the fact that the game is in Austin (and the big-time struggles of OSU lately), Texas is favored to win this match-up, but without Holmes, it certainly won’t be an easy task for Rick Barnes and his club. It will be wildly interesting to see how Travis Ford and company play without Smart for the first time, but now that Texas has their own high-profile absence, the intrigue doubles on their end.
