It would seem as if the CW is trying to incorporate a little bit of the past with the future when they debut their new series The Flash. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CW has cast John Wesley Shipp in a mysterious new role on the show.
As some of you may already know, John Wesley Shipp played the role of Barry Allen in the original 1990 CBS series.
According to reports, Shipp will guest star in the pilot episode. In the event that the Arrow spin-off is picked up for a full season order, his role would expand to a recurring role. As one may expect, they are not revealing at this time who exactly Shipp will be playing in the series.
Shipp will be joining a quickly expanding cast of characters. Former Glee actor Grant Gustin has been cast in the role of the speedster himself, Barry Allen, also known as The Flash. Gustin has already appeared in two episode of Arrow as Allen.
Also joining the cast recently was Law & Order’s Jesse L. Martin, who has been cast in the role of Detective West, and Candice Patton, who has been brought on as Detective West’s daughter Iris West, who in the series will be the best friend of Barry Allen. The Vampire Diaries actor Rick Cosnett has been cast as Eddie Thawne, and Necessary Roughness’ Danielle Panabaker has been cast as Caitlin Snow.
The upcoming series will be an origin story of sorts for The Flash, much like shows like Arrow, Smallville, and other such shows have been. I think it has been a long time coming for The Flash to be brought back into the forefront and given the origin story treatment.
Do you think the new CW series will do the character justice? How do you feel about the casting decisions that have been made thus far? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think.
