All good things must come to an end. Fortunately, when one good thing ends, another one is usually right around the corner. Thus is the same with the widely popular CBS series How I Met Your Mother. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has made the first move in getting the highly anticipated How I Met Your Mother spin-off How I Met Your Dad off the ground.
Greta Gerwig, who starred opposite Russell Brand in the film Arthur, has been tapped to play the lead, or in other words, the Ted of the series.
Her involvement in the series doesn’t end there. Apparently, she will also be credited as a producer. Should the pilot make the jump to full on series it is expected that she will help write for the show as well. Talk about your well-rounded leading lady.
Just like How I Met Your Mother, the spin-off series will carry the same format except it will be told from the woman’s point of view. For those of you wondering, there will be no ties to the original series, so don’t expect to see Marshall and Lily walking through the halls.
Gerwig will play a woman named Sally. Here is how the character is described by The Hollywood Reporter.
Sally is a female Peter Pan who never has grown up and has no idea where she’s going in life. She just has figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year. A breakup is inevitable, but Sally will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family, who often are too willing to give “good” advice that can backfire badly. Meanwhile, Sally must filter out the input and decide what’s best for her.”
I think it will be interesting to see the show play out from a whole new point of view. Throughout the nine seasons that we have followed How I Met Your Mother we have always heard things from Ted’s point of view and the challenges that men have in finding the perfect woman. Now, we will get to see how it is on the other side of the spectrum.
