It would seem as if the Marvel Cinematic Universe may finally be getting its first female standalone. In an interview with Total Film Magazine via ComicBookMovie.com, Kevin Feige, President of Production a Marvel Studios confirmed that there may be some truth to the rumors of a standalone Black Widow film.
“We start filming the next Avengers film at the end of March,” said Feige. “[Black] Widow’s part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”
While the premise of Captain America: The Winter Soldier does have to deal with the Russians, I don’t think that we will get a full explanation of her backstory in the new Cap film.
While this is not a glorious reveal like casting, a title, or more importantly a release date, it is indeed proof that the notion of having Black Widow standalone is not out of the realm of possibility; however, it may be some time before it actually comes to light.
As you know, Marvel has a lot on their plate right now with the upcoming release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, then the release of the next installation in the Avengers franchise, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Behind that we will have the release of Marvel’s Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas.
So, what does the future hold of the Black Widow? We don’t quite know for sure yet, but as you can tell from Kevin Feige, it may only be a matter of time.
