NHL Trade Rumors: Ryan Miller Could Be Driving Teams Away

Ryan Miller has been surrounded by trade rumors for the entire season. With the Buffalo Sabres becoming the worst team in the NHL, it has not helped matters for him. It has just made the rumors surrounding him more plausible.

Some though that he would be dealt before the Olympic roster freeze. Obviously, that didn’t happen and he is still Buffalo property. The question is, will the Sabres be able to move him and get what they want before the deadline?

If what Jeff Gordon of the St.Louis Post-Dispatch says is true, then the Sabres could have a little trouble. Apparently, there’s a report that Miller want’s ‘Henrik Lundqvist-money’. Lundqvist will be the highest paid goaltender next season with the start of a seven-year, $59.5 million contract.

If Miller thinks he is going to get that type of contract at his age and with the play of the team that he is on, I would check what’s in the water in Buffalo. There is no way that the Sabres will pay him that and only a team that has no goaltending and needs to get to the cap floor would even consider giving him that contract.

The Sabres need to trade Miller before the deadline. Miller won’t work in the rebuild in Buffalo. They need the prospects and picks that they would get in any deal involving Miller. Miller’s supposed asking price on a new contract might scare teams away.

It looked like Miller was a sure thing to be moved before the deadline. Now, I’m not so sure.
