That is the list of goaltenders that the Washington Capitals have used in the last four and a half seasons. That list might grow if what The Fourth Period is reporting in fact happens.
The Fourth Period says that Neuvirth would almost assuredly have to be included in the deal. They also note that the Capitals would have to include their first-round in this year’s draft. Buffalo would probably ask even for even more.
With the pressure from ownership to succeed in Washington, General Manager George McPhee could pull the trigger on anything the Buffalo Sabres ask for. With not much playoff success recently, the pressure is on to succeed now, so the Capitals future might be sacrificed in order to do that.
The Fourth Period also says that the Minnesota Wild and possibly the St. Louis Blues could also be interested in Miller, but it seems that no team needs him more than the Capitals. The Blues lead the Central Division. The Wild are in the first wild card spot in the Western Conference with a five point lead on the Dallas Stars. The Capitals are outside the playoffs and desperately need a push to get there.
If the Capitals don’t make the playoffs, heads will roll in Washington. If McPhee doesn’t want to be included in that house-cleaning, he might want to acquire Miller as soon as possible.
