Pierre the Pelican gets a makeover (pics)

When the New Orleans Pelicans initially introduced Pierre, the reaction to the new mascot was mixed.

(Which is to say people were caught between loudly screaming in horror and that silent kind of screaming where one’s mouth is agape but no sound is emitted. You know, “mixed.”)

Recently, the franchise decided to give their stuff-nightmares-are-made-of mascot a much-needed makeover. The results were unveiled on the team’s official Twitter account:

While certainly an improvement over the ghoulish original, the new Pierre still isn’t exactly cuddly. But a step in the right direction is a step in the right direction, I guess, and at least young N.O. fans will no longer be traumatized by the mind-boggling creepiness of the first Pierre version.
