While ESPN’s flagship college football show, College GameDay, is in a different city each week, there is one constant. No matter where they are, you are guaranteed to see the Washington State Cougars flag in the crowd somewhere. It’s as much the norm as waking up in the morning is.

However, the flag has now broadened its horizons outside of the United States and the sport of college football as, yes, it has indeed made its way to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

That is just incredible and that gives the word “dedication” a new meaning. This tradition of the Washington State flag showing up consistently at sporting events began over 10 years ago and has gone off without a hitch. The alumni pass the flag around throughout the year and they take it to whichever event they’re nearest to.

As much as we associate Washington State with collegiate athletics, though, this appearance in Sochi can’t really be topped.

Can it?
