Washington's Husky Stadium nominated for stadium of the year

The University of Washington’s Husky Stadium is one of the premier college football venues in the Pac-12. But is it one of the premier stadiums in the entire world?

As The Seattle Times reported Wednesday, the $280 million stadium, which opened on Aug. 31 of 2013, is one of 16 venues nominated for the 2013 world’s stadium of the year award.

The award is given by the folks at StadiumDB.com. Of the nominees for the 2013 award, Husky Stadium is the only stadium located in the United States.

Okay, we recognize that voting for your favorite stadium isn’t quite as thrilling as, say, voting for your favorite American Idol contestant or your favorite presidential candidate. But you have a patriotic duty to fulfill here. In the 2012 competition, the only nominated U.S. stadium — the Houston Dynamo’s BBVA Compass Stadium — finish tenth in the final voting. Tenth. That is not acceptable.

So head on over to Stadium Database and cast your vote. You aren’t even required to register with an e-mail address or with your Facebook profile, so you really have no excuse not to participate. You know, unless you hate America.

Voting ends February 22.
