After Macklemore (and Ryan Lewis) won Rap Album of the Year at the 2014 Grammy Awards, the Seattle native decided he’d send a ‘private’ message to Kendrick Lamar suggesting that he was sorry he won and that Lamar was robbed of the award.
Maybe Macklemore’s heart was in the right place, but the note to the Los Angeles based rapper seemed a bit condescending and it didn’t sit well with many. That list includes fellow ‘rapper’ Drake, who suggested the private message which Macklemore made public was ‘whack as f%@#‘.
Drake makes it very clear he thought the message was unnecessary. To put it bluntly, he thought “that sh*t was wack as f**k.”
“I was like, ‘You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your W, and if you feel you didn’t deserve it, go get better — make better music,’” he tells us. “It felt cheap. It didn’t feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt? You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?”
Hard to disagree there, though, can you imagine such a conversation going on during the mid-90′s between Biggie and 2Pac? Sigh.
