UFC lightweight contender Gilbert Melendez is currently in contract negotiations, but it isn’t going well. As mixed martial arts fans eagerly wait for Melendez’s next fight, they may be coming to the realization that his next fight could be outside of the UFC.

Melendez’s talks with the UFC are apparently not going well, and UFC president Dana White is increasingly frustrated.

Helwani provided some details on UFC Tonight Wednesday:

“It’s not looking good. I spoke to UFC President Dana White yesterday. He said, ‘I’m done with Gilbert. I like Gilbert very much, but I don’t like his manager.’ He has the same manager as GSP. Dana said: ‘Being GSP’s best friend doesn’t make you a good manager.’ Dana said if Gilbert wants to fight in the UFC, he should call Lorenzo quickly and he also should start looking elsewhere.”

It is a shame for Melendez, who was a controversial decision away from being the UFC champ, but hopefully his manager and the UFC will be able to work out their differences.
