NHL Trade Rumors: Anaheim Ducks Looking For Defenseman

When the best team in the NHL is looking to improve on their already impressive team, everyone else is in trouble. That is the case with the Anaheim Ducks right now. They lead the NHL by three points over the Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues.

Now it has come out that General Manager Bob Murray would like to add a stay -at-home defenseman to their current stable. The biggest name linked to the Ducks, according to The Fourth Period, is Dan Girardi of the New York Rangers.

Of course, the Rangers would like to re-sign Girardi, but it is known that if the two sides can’t come to terms, the Rangers are prepared to trade him. Girardi is reportedly looking for a five-year deal worth $25 million. The Ducks look like one of the teams ready to pounce if the Rangers can’t sign him.

Girardi would certainly be a great addition to the Ducks blue line if a deal were to be made. However, The Fourth Period also notes that the Ducks are prepared to look in different directions if Girardi can’t be acquired.

Other options for the Ducks could be the New York Islanders Andrew MacDonald, the Buffalo Sabres’ Henrik Tallinder, the Florida Panthers’ Dmitry Kulikov and the Edmonton Oilers Nick Schultz.

If the Ducks are successful in acquiring another defenseman, they will become an even stronger team. That is bad news for every other team in the NHL. Those other teams might want to get on their horses and start negotiating now to keep the Ducks from getting the top talent.
