NHL Trade Rumors: Boston Bruins Will Not Trade Young Players Or First-Round Pick For A Defenseman

It is no secret that the Boston Bruins are looking to add a defenseman to help them out in their playoff run. While it’s almost a sure thing that it will happen, don’t expect the player they acquire to that big of a name.

Why? The Bruins don’t want to give up some of the players that others teams might inquire about. Joe Haggerty of CSN New England tweeted this out a couple of days ago.

That takes them out of the running for many of the defenseman up for rental at the trade deadline. All that will be left is depth defenseman that come at a cheap price.

Now, the way that the Bruins blue line stands now, all they really need is a depth defenseman that plays a safe that can also take some pressure off of the Bruins young defensemen. They’re are a few of them on the Bruins, Matt Bartkowski, Torey Krug and Dougie Hamilton to name three of them.

That being said, with the injury to Dennis Seidenberg, the Bruins are without their No. 2 defenseman for the rest of the season. That might put some pressure on General Manager Peter Chiarelli to at least try to replace Seidenberg with a player like him for the rest of the season.

With what Haggerty tweeted, all we know is one thing for sure. Bartkowski and Ryan Spooner can rest easy, knowing that they more than likely won’t be traded. Good news for a young player.

To replace Seindenberg, the available player who has a UFA status is Dan Girardi (asking price is expensive 1st round pick with either a roster player or prospect) mind you that Girardi is seeking for a 6 year deal circa 5.7 million per year – to play with Chara. I truely believe the Bruins need a a combination of a lock down D and a two way defensman to replace Andrew Ference who’s role and experience is missed by the Bruins .Also the Bruins speed in front. to make a solid run into the playoffs If I were the Boston Bruins GM wich I’m not I’d make a solid run to acquire two players from the Winnipeg Jets in former Bruins Mark Stuart and Evander Kane a solid, speedy gritty LW. It’s feasable and that is what the B’s need to make them a solid Stanley Cup containder! Why not gamble a high end draft picks and or give up a couple of their prospects and throw Malcom Subban,Jordan Caron into a deal done? Maybe it’s easier said than done but if you don”t gamble you may run out short like last year …against the Hawks .
