The 2014 NHL Draft is still four months away but mock drafts are already starting to pop up. Everyone seems to be doing it, including FanSided’s own Michael Straw. Check out his first mock here. NHL.com has gotten in on it with Adam Kimelman, Mike Morreale and Steven Hoffner presenting their first mock drafts of the season.
The three NHL.com writers all agree on one thing: the top three of the Draft. They all have Sam Reinhart going to the Buffalo Sabres, Aaron Ekblad going to the Edmonton Oilers and Sam Bennett going to the Florida Panthers. After that, the decisions vary.
If the NHL Draft were to shake out that way, all three teams in the top three positions would be happy with their picks.
Reinhart would give the Sabres a great young player that they could build around. He will be a great player in the NHL as he play well in almost every aspect of the game.
Ekblad is the only choice that the Oilers can take. After focusing on forwards in multiple drafts before taking Darnell Nurse last year, the Oilers need to take defensemen. Ekblad could play in the NHL next season, so it would be a great choice for Edmonton.
Bennett was the surprise choice as the No. 1-rated North American skater by Central Scouting. If he were to drop to No. 3, the Florida Panthers would probably love to take a player like him.
The 2014 NHL Draft may be months away, but the excitement for it is already beginning.
