Team USA begins their quest to capture a Gold Medal in just a few hours, and the first obstacle that stands in their way is Slovakia. The United States brought an improved forward core to Sochi and boasts a young a quick blue line, and this will be the first time that the group will get to play together while utilizing their “blue collar” style.
Slovakia should provide an excellent test for the Americans, as they boast one of the most blue collar players around in Zdeno Chara. It’s likely that the biggest man on the ice will also log the highest number of minutes as he attempts to shut down the likes of Patrick Kane and Zach Parise.
America’s larger contingent of NHL players could be a detriment in this particular contest however, as a few of them may still be jet lagged after flying from North America to compete.
