Sochi Olympics: What is team luge relay?

On Thursday, the team luge relay takes place at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, but you may be wondering what exactly the event is since it is a new addition to the Winter Olympics. We are hear to explain.

The team luge competition is actually quite simple.

Countries compete in three different events — men’s singles, women’s singles and men’s doubles — and have their times added together to deliver a final score. At the end of the competition, the team with the combined fastest time takes home the gold medal.

Germany is the clear favorite in the competition, with Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and Tobias Wendl / Tobias Arlt all bringing home gold in their respective events earlier in the games.
