Athletics’ Sean Doolittle set back a few days

The hits keep coming for AL West pitchers.

Right after announcing that set-up man Ryan Cook will be shut down for a week with shoulder inflammation, Jane Lee also announced that fellow set-up man Sean Doolittle is dealing with a right calf strain. His throwing program will be pushed back a couple of days as well.

Cook and Doolittle have been bullpen staples for the Athletics in the last two years as they capture the AL West title. Doolittle, the 27-year old lefty, broke out in 2012 with a 3.04 ERA over 47.1 relief innings. He put up a K/9 ratio of 11.4. Last season, he compiled a 3.13 ERA over 69 innings, striking out 60 for the second year in a row, but putting up a lower K/9 of 7.8.
