If you were a basketball fan in the mid-to-late 1990′s, there’s no doubt you remember ‘Lil’ Penny’.

The ‘puppet’ like character Nike created as Anfernee ‘Penny’ Hardaway’s sidekick (for a lack of better terms) has been absent from their marketing campaign for years. But he appears to be back.

Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans, a Nike player, was seen shaking hands with Lil’ Penny in a All-Star locker room.

Judging from the screen in the background which features a Nike logo, it appears the two were doing some type of promo work.

Lil’ Penny, who was voiced by comedian Chris Rock, became an instant hit – staring in commercials with then Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Tyra Banks and more.

Hell, there were even Lil’ Penny dolls created.

Of course, with Penny Hardaway’s injury struggles, his stardom slowly faded away as did Lil’ Penny’s, but it appears Nike has decided to have him return – even if it’s just for a brief period.
