The NFL hasn’t been a fan of fictional shows about professional football before as we saw with the ESPN show Playmakers, but a network that has begun building a relationship with the league through the Hard Knocks series is looking to give it another try.
According to reports from Deadline.com, HBO has picked up the series Ballers, which has been produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Mark Wahlberg. Entourage producer Stephen Levinson was also in on the project, which shot a pilot earlier this year.
The show is described as a “half-hour dramedy about the lives of a group of former and current football players living in Miami.”
Maybe with some luck, former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco will be able to attend a casting call and finally make his return to a football field.
Production for the series is set to begin later this year.
